Theme: Is Africa Emerging?


The Ninth Annual Conference on Regional Integration in Africa (ACRIA 9) will be held in Banjul, The Gambia, 8-11 July 2018.  It will be jointly organized by:


-        The African Political Economy Association (APEA), Global

-        The Center for Research on Political Economy (CREPOL), Dakar

-        The West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), Lagos

-        The West African Monetary Agency (WAMA), Freetown

-        The West African Monetary Institute (WAMI), Accra.


The theme of the four-day conference will be “Is Africa Emerging?”.  The goal of the conference will be to organize a forum for presentation of scientific papers and discussion on the policy implications of their findings in support of the regional integration agenda.    Approximately 20 papers will be selected by a Selection Panel in an open competition and compiled into a published monograph at the end of the Conference. Sub-themes will include economic growth, investment, human capital, globalization, trade, governance, industrial policy, growth-enabling macro and sectoral policies, innovation and inclusiveness. 


The Conference will facilitate a direct debate between researchers from Africa and the Diaspora, and senior national and regional policymakers.

The timetable for the Conference is as follows:


-        January 15, 2018: Call for Papers

-        March 31, 2018:  Deadline for submission of abstracts

-        April 20, 2018: Selection of papers

-        June 1, 2018: Complete papers submitted and circulated.   


Some financial support (the level will be determined later) will be provided to authors whose papers are selected and completed by June 1, 2018.
